We see it on commercials ranging from green energy to Coco-cola.
It is discussed in political debates, in our news, on our television, and maybe even at your kitchen table.
Almost everybody has an opinion about it.
But
regardless of what your beliefs are about the health of our planet, we
can all probably agree that it is important to take care of the earth.
Here
are some practical things that you can do to positively affect the
health of the planet and possibly improve your health as well.
A simple way to be friendlier to the environment is to be aware of your water consumption.
Instead of buying bottled water, consider buying a re-usable water bottle and bottling your tap water.
Many well-known brands of water bottle water from public sources anyway, and then majorly mark-up the price.
In addition to saving yourself money, you could also be saving yourself from negative health effects of water bottled water.
Bottled water stored in warm temperatures can make the chemical of the plastic contaminate the water.
If
you do not like the taste of your tap water, you can buy a water
filter; this is will help neutralize the taste and save you money.
Another way to cut down on your water consumption is to take shorter showers.
Long
showers are a relaxing luxury, but if you can limit yourself to one
long shower a week and keep the rest of your showers to 5 minutes, you
can drastically cut down how much water you use.
A third option for limiting how much water you use is to set your sprinkler system to go off in the early morning or evening.
If your lawn is watered during the heat of the day, you are losing a lot of your water to evaporation.
If you are intentional about when you water your lawn, your lawn will be watered more efficiently.
Our earth is covered with water, but very little of it can be used for consumption.
If
you are intentional with how you buy and use your water, you can be
doing your part to not only make the planet a better place for you, but
also for everyone else.
There are over 6 billion people on the earth and we all must use the same water.
And
while there is really no way to definitively determine what shape the
planet is in, or what it will look like in 50 or 100 years, it is far
better to take initiative too early than too late.
Using
a reusable water bottle, taking shorter showers, and being intentional
with our sprinkler systems will not solve all of the world’s water
problems, but it is important for us to do our small parts in order to
make a big difference.
